TB Testing Prices
IFA Animal Health Chairman Bert Stewart said there is a huge variance in the fee’s being charged by vets for TB testing.
Based on the survey information provided the cost of TB testing 100 animals ranged from €250 to €549, a difference of €299 or 120% between the most expensive and best value vets to carry out the same task.
TB testing costs ranged from €2.50 to €4.77 per head with callout fees for both visits ranging from no charge to €102.15.
Bert Stewart said a farmer can change his TB testing vet by notifying the Department in advance of his test being issued. It should be borne in mind when negotiating testing rates that the vet is only providing his labour as the Department of Agriculture provide the Tuberculin for the test.
