IRISH BEEF STATUS CLEARED

IFA National Livestock Committee Chairman Michael Doran said confirmation from the Chief Medical officer and the Food Safety Authority that there is no public health issue and there will be no recall on beef was very positive news and came as a major relief to 100,000 livestock farmers this week. Michael Doran said the status of Irish beef was cleared and it’s business as usual for all involved. The IFA livestock leader said at farm level there was real concern and apprehension before the results of the first beef tests came through on Tuesday. However, when the scientific facts confirmed that there is no public health issue, any concerns immediately abated. In the market place, IFA has been working closely with processors, Bord Bia and live exporters to maintain consumer confidence. Michael Doran said maintaining consumer confidence is the key. Our comprehensive animal identification and CMMS systems has proved essential in terms of the transparent way the authorities can show how the farms involved and animals were immediately identified, isolated and restricted.
