Dear Commissioner, MEP,
The proposed measures to amend 91/414 relating to the use of plant protection products are draconian and will severely limit cereal, grass and horticultural crop production potential in Ireland and across the EU. I am an Irish farmer and a professional user of crop protection products. Our independent crop production researchers have informed us that the removal of many products under the new legislation will make crop production non-viable and will also severely restrict livestock farms. To date the Commission have refused to conduct an impact assessment on an enterprise by enterprise, crop-by-crop or country-by-country basis. This is a necessary first step in determining the future viability or otherwise of my enterprise. I demand that the suitability or otherwise of these plant protection products is based on science. I need to know what herbicides, fungicides and insecticides will be available to use when required.
I also need to know will produce using non-approved chemistry from outside the EU be allowed for sale in the EU.
Yours Faithfully,
